MYNIC APPOINT RESELLERS TO HANDLE DOMAIN NAME REGISTRATION
KUALA LUMPUR, 28 September 2001 – Malaysian Network Information Centre (MYNIC) has officially appointed resellers to handle the domain name registration for third level domain names under .com.my, .net.my and .org.my.
The appointment will allow users to register for the above domain names and also pay their registration and renewal fees via resellers. Users need not pay additional fees to resellers when registering or paying through them.
Registrations for .gov.my, .edu.my and .mil.my domain names will remain with MYNIC.
With this new Resellers model, MYNIC aims to speed up the registration process.
The appointed resellers are MIMOS Internet Services (MIS), Emerge Systems (M) Sdn. Bhd, IPXcess Dotcom Sdn. Bhd, Asia Online Utusan Sdn. Bhd., Hileytech Sdn. Bhd. and Free Net Business Solutions Sdn. All resellers offer the same domain name registration services, that is, they handle domain name registration requests in accordance to MYNIC’s policies. However, resellers may choose to bundle domain name registration services with their own non-MYNIC services. It is not compulsory for users to subscribe to these extra services.
MYNIC, is a unit under MIMOS Berhad which administers the name space for the .my top level domain in Malaysia under which six second level domains exist, namely .com.my, .net.my, .org.my, .gov.my, .edu.my and .mil.my. Thus, MYNIC is involved in the registration of domain names, and the maintenance and operation of a domain name registry.
MYNIC has been administering the name space for the .my top level domain since 1987. It has registered 26138 domain names as at 31 August 2001.
