Public Comments on MYNIC's Personal Domain Name (PDN)

26 May 2003

Dear Valued Customers,

MYNIC is planning to introduce Personal Domain Names (PDN) for individuals in the “.name.my” category this July 2003.

Prior to this, MYNIC and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission www.mcmc.gov.my (MCMC) invites the public to submit their comments on the PDN public consultation paper which can be found on both MYNIC’s and MCMC’s websites.

The public comments period is until 5pm Friday, 20 June 2003 and comments can be e-mailed to pdn-comments@mynic.net.my. Interested parties are encouraged to raise any issue pertinent to them and it would be most useful if they were substantiated with rationales, examples and alternative proposals. They would also be required to include full contact particulars such as full name, designation and organisation name (if relevant), postal address, e-mail address and contact numbers.

MYNIC will also be providing an online poll to vote for the choice of PDN. Members of the public are encouraged to participate in the poll via MYNIC’s website.

Throughout the years, MYNIC has received numerous requests for individuals to register their own personalised .my domain names. As the Internet continues to grow pervasive in Malaysia with the number of individual users steadily rising, the need to cater for individuals in the .my name space has reached a critical point.

With the introduction of the PDN, individual users will be able to register their own personalised .my domain names and maintain an online presence in the .my name space.

Prior to PDN, only organisations were eligible to register .my domain names. But with this new category, the domain names that will be offered are for personal and non-commercial use only.

PDN registration will be open to all Malaysians, aged 18 years and above, provided they furnish the relevant documents. It is also open to non-Malaysians aged 18 years and above, residing in Malaysia, provided they show proof of identity. Persons under 18 years would be able to register for domain names under the care of their parents or guardians. Online registrations can be made through MYNIC resellers listed in MYNIC’s website.

Please do not hesitate to e-mail us at pdn-comments@mynic.net.my if there is any query regarding this announcement.

Thank You.
